![]() One thing you should keep in mind, however, is that the Audio Masking tools within FL Studio are only available when you purchase the plugins bundle. Audio masking also allows for "fades", which are useful for manipulating audio, by applying fades to every portion of the audio track. This is a powerful tool that can be used for positioning sounds in any way you desire. ![]() The FL Studio plugin bundle also comes with the excellent "Audio Masking Tools". This also creates a workflow, or a group of processes, that can be carried out in parallel. This meta tag system is extremely easy to learn and use, and allows the studio owner to easily create custom sound modules, and assign them to various tasks. One thing you should know about FL Studio is that it has a powerful "meta tag" engine that greatly expands its functionality. By default, all of the audio channels are assigned to one job this is done by adjusting the "Mix Destination" and "Master FX Presets" options. For one thing, there are over four hundred audio channels to choose from, each of which has a single mono or stereo input. One thing that makes FL Studio stand-out from other workstations is its unprecedented depth and breadth for editing. These functions are great for adding some much needed originality to your music. Ableton other MIDI editing and automation tools include "lex trace", which traces a selected note on the keyboard. Ableton MIDI editing programs are great for beginners looking to add new tracks to their live set or make minor adjustments to existing songs without having to learn a new set of skills.Ībleton MIDI sequencer tools include what is known as "lockstep", which stop the sequence when pressed, and what is known as "repeat" which will keep going back to the start when pressed again. This allows the user to seamlessly plug in and play any type of instrument, whether it be a keyboard an acoustic guitar, a drum set, or even a keyboard synthesizer.Ībleton also offers a full range of MIDI editing and automation tools that can be used directly on the software or loaded onto a VST or PC through software such as Virtual DJ. A virtual rack consisting of an array of instruments can be availed of from Ableton, which can be plugged into a computer via a USB cable or FireWire port. It can be done. One of the most common uses for Ableton is the use of its virtual instruments. There are people here who have controlled entire shows from a laptop using Cakewalk including the lights. Once you learn it though it seems easier. I didn't find a lot of the functions in Ableton as intuitive compared to most of the more common DAWs, Ableton is a little quirky that respect. Then you can do pretty much anything you want to do in either one. You need to invest time into Cakewalk to learn it same as Ableton. They are both complicated ecosystems to the uninitiated that need full attention. I used a Qneo.Ĭakewalk is a great program for those who don't conceptualize everything in a "loop" format, even though Cakewalk plays any loop you can throw at it, Rex, acid.or you can make your own loops. You need some kind of midi control unless you plan to use hot keys. You can get there with Cakewalk but less intuitive to link those cells up with midi triggers. Want to add another sound to an existing chorus during a live gig, no eat for modern DJ and dance music. The main uses I have found are, moving mixes around live at the loops level, changing between verse/choruses on the fly live. Especially if you built a song in the loops view and want to record it as a typical multitrack in tracks view. Yes Cakewalk has the matrix but it doesn't seem to work as well going between screens as Ableton does. For workflow speed, Ableton Live definitely wins this round. The main differences are the dual screen approaches that are unique to Ableton. I have used it with a laptop to play backing tracks and it works well for that. What I really needed was a way to play backing tracks which can be done in almost any DAW including Cakewalk, so my Ableton has been sitting gathering dust. I mainly bought Ableton because I understood it to be the best program for live work. I am coming at this from the opposite direction and have Ableton 10 as an addition to Cakewalk. ![]()
